| The first issue of Contents of the Weaker Vessel was printed in March of 1987. The editors at that time were Sharon Ayres, Jerri Hamilton, Rachel Hickman, Pat Morr, and Kathleen Pamer. Kathleen had approached Sharon with the idea of creating and sharing a small newsletter by Christian women for Christian women, in February 1987, when they both worshiped the Lord together at the Downriver church of Christ in the southern suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. Jerri, Rachel, and Pat were also living and working with various churches of the Lord in the Detroit area and decided to join in serving the Lord in this way. The first year was financed by the editors themselves. But when many sisters in Christ expressed interest in this publication, the editors decided to make the vessel a subscription journal. The first year with paid subscribers was 1988. Shortly after, the editors established Vessel Publishing, a non-profit organization which continues to serve as the official governing association of the vessel. Through the years, the editorial board has gone through several changes. Pat Morr was an editor until 1988 when she and her husband went to Ireland and Australia to do the Lord's work there. Rachel Hickman was an editor until 1989 when she and her husband moved to Asheville, North Carolina where they continue to minister to the saints there today. Linda Faul from Michigan served as an editor from 1990 through 1994 and Elizabeth Smith became an editor in 1996 and worked on the newsletter through 2003 when Vessel Publishing ended the newsletter in paper form. Through the years, the editors received administrative assistance from Clare Delong and Barbara Scott. They also were assisted with typesetting by Tom and Joy Hamilton of Muncie, Indiana from January 1991 through July 1993, and printing from Scott Richardson of Russellville, Alabama. Contents of the Weaker Vessel has been redesigned in electronic format, and currently appears at www.vesselpublishing.com under the editorial direction of Sharon A. Ayres, Jerri Hamilton, and Kathleen M. Trigg.
